Moving Often? Here are Some
Clever Tips for Storing

home moving articles and tips

If cleaning seems the hardest part of yor household responsibilities, then what about moving out? It's stressful, it's time-consuming and so boring! But at some point in life, everybody has to move out of a place. If it happens more often to you than you wish it did, you at least have some previous experience with this. You must have learned how to organise the process so that it goes as smooth as possible. But if you haven't, we can help you with some tips.

Here we offer a couple of clever tips for storing upon moving out. They can be of help even if you have already created the perfect organisational process.

Things to Remember...

Before you begin packing and storing, you need to make a list of all the stuff that will be moved, the things that will be disposed of and the tasks you have to carry out.
Making a checklist will do. You can include the following things:

  • Decide which items go with you and which don't; write them down.
  • Make sure you have all important papers and valuables in a safe place; don't send them with the transportation vehicle as they may get lost somewhere. Always take them with you.
  • Have you got pets? You need to consider transportation. Does your new community allow pet ownership? Check out any specific requirements you weren't aware of.
  • Label your items. Put words such as “load first”, “fragile”, “do not load” or “load last”. It is going to make the process of transportation much easier and organised.

How and what to store

You need to take a look at every single item and think about the following: if you need it; if it is fragile; if it is of common use, etc.

Make sure you store essential commodities first, so that you don't forget something important during the tedious process of moving out. These items are found  everywhere in the house and are easy to see simply because you use them all the time.

When you are done storing the most essential belongings, it is time to pack the other stuff. You need bigger boxes for large items. Collect blankets, clothes, linen and other fabric materials in sacks or suitcases. Put fragile stuff in separate boxes, labelling them with “fragile”. Cutlery and other kitchen stuff should be put together.

A little extra caution on that one: be sure to properly dispose of inflammable stuff such as matches, cleaning fluids, fireworks, acids, etc.

Plants are another important item to think about. You have to store them properly so that you don't damage them in any way. Adding plants in your new home will freshen the place a lot.

Don't forget your refrigerator and freezer. Be sure to defrost every appliance and clean all other machines such as microwave oven, stove, dishwasher, washing machine, coffeemaker, etc. If you need help for the cleaning you could hire a company like Perfect Carpet Cleaning Friern Barnet.

What to clean

You can't move out of your current house without cleaning it a little beforehand. If you have spent years in that place, you will have to do more than a simple wipe and brush here and there. As you expect your new home to be clean so you need to make sure that the one you are leaving is spotless as well. You will benefit from it. How? If you are intending to sell the house, you will get more buyers. On the other hand, if you rented the place, you will be able to get your money back. So there is a point in giving the house a good clean after all.
