home moving articles and tips

With so many things to consider whilst moving home, it is a good idea to start has early as possible, and make a list of everything that needs to be done before your move, you can then tick off what you have achieved has you go. Some tips may seem obvious but can easily be forgotten. Here are some important tips for you to consider whilst moving home.

Label Boxes and make a list of it contents.

It may seem a tedious task but making an inventory of what is in your boxes will help you whilst unpacking in your new home.  By devising a packaging system that suits you will keep things simple and will enable you to easily identify where you have packed your items. Simply systems can be in a numerical form so each box has it’s own number and in your notepad you can then list the contents of the number of each box

A colour coded system may also be an easy means in identifying what is each box, you can do this by setting a different colour for each room, this will also be easier whilst unpacking in your new home and if you are using a removal company then they will know which room to put the colour coded boxes.

It is important that you don’t not overfill your packing boxes, it is easy to keep packing a box to the brim but remember that each box will need to be carried and could easily break due to the weight, not a good idea with very fragile items.

It is equally important that you do not under fill your boxes, has boxes will be stacked during transit if your box id under filled then they can easily collapse if heavier boxes are put on top of them, if you have a half filled boxed then the best idea is to fill them with clothing, towels or bedding this will make them sturdy and safer whilst in transit.

Make sure you have sufficient packing materials, it is easy to have plenty of boxes at hand but without significant tape to sell the boxes, then they become quite useless, items can be bought weeks before to ensure you have all your packing needs at hand.

If you are using newspapers to wrap your items be warned that newspaper print can rub off, this can be a problem if the print sticks, it is advisable to wrap such items in plain paper or kitchen roll before you wrap with newspaper, always make sure that your fragile items are labelled with the wording fragile so they are stacked appropriately during transit.

If your furniture was bought as a flat packed item, then it is advisable to dismantle such furniture before you move, as flat packed furniture does not move well.

Ensure that all your kitchen appliances containing water are well drained before you move, items such as fridges, freezers needs to be defrosted a day or two before the move to ensure that they are dry and clean before you place them in transit.  It is a good idea not to shop for much chilled or frozen items a few weeks before you move, or you may lose a lot of food due to lack of facilities.

If there is anybody in your household that requires taking regular medication it is important that such medication are keep separately from the moving items and will be travelling with you, this will make the medication easy to find, it may also be useful to set an alarm on your mobile telephone to ensure that any medication is taken on time.
